February already! A time to celebrate all that's worthy of our love and affection...certainly my beloved Carmen, Madison, Mrs. and my departed Molly are in that category!

To each of you who care enough about your pets to reach out when times are "ruff", I thank you.  I believe the saying says: "Pride goeth before a fall." and for those of you who've received food for your pets from Molly Hubbard's Cupboard, I'm so thankful that they - your pets- fell into your care. Thanks to our fantastic community for their continued support in helping us reach out to those in need of a Temporary Paw Up!

Great news...two individuals have contacted Molly Hubbard's Cupboard in an effort to open additional pet food pantries - one each in Denver, Colorado, and Omaha, Nebraska!  Molly Hubbard's Cupboard is delighted to welcome them on board!

Welcome to Molly Hubbard's Cupboard where our goal is to provide free food for dogs and cats whose owners may need a temporary "paw up".

Inspired by Molly who never missed a meal, we're also driven by our stray, Carmen, who when hungry, ate socks.

Great news! Molly Hubbard's Cupboard continues to be a recipient of much needed pet food and cat litter -- a most generous donation from the volunteers at Blue Lion Rescue, a large-breed rescue in Yoder, Colorado.  Please visit them at: www.bluelionresecue.org and check out the more than 100 large dogs that Lisa Kavanaugh and her dedicated volunteers continue to rescue, nationwide.  Thanks, Lisa, for giving of yourself as you do and to your volunteers, specifically, Jeff Lindstrom, for his time and efforts in delivering these greatly-appreciated supplies!

Junior Girl Scouts Pet Food Drive for MHC

Many thanks to the Jr. Girl Scout Troop 063 who hosted an incredibly successful Pet Food Drive at PETCO on December 20th!  Thanks to their efforts we collected nearly $300 worth of products to distribute to our community!

None of this would have been possible without the support of Char, and the folks at PETCO located at 3060 N. Powers Boulevard, AND the support of our most generous community.

Thank you all for your support!

First Bank - The CO Bank for You (and your dog!)

Our thanks to First Bank and Kelly O'Brians for supporting us during our pet food drives in December 2008.

See our Services page for specific locations where hundreds of pounds of food were donated by generous patrons and supporters!  Many, many thanks to all!

Who are we and what makes us unique?

Quite simply, we are a non-profit food pantry for dogs and cats.  Local food pantries and food stamps assist millions when times are tough and stomachs go empty.  To so many, the choice between feeding the child seated at the table or the dog or cat lying on the floor and the sad reality is the pet loses, naturally.

Food pantries don't typically stock pet food (if any actually do).  Food stamps are not allowable by law to be used for pet food but pets know hunger just as we do - just ask Carmen!

Currently we are serving the pet food needs our elderly community members and those who are home-bound and often have only their beloved pets for affection and companionship.

If these individuals are relying on meals delivered to their homes for their personal nutritional needs, what might their pets be eating?  Most likely they are sharing the same plate of mashed potatoes as their owners ... many owners would first feed their pets before themselves.

We are here to help and provide for the nutritional needs of these pets who often live on the left-overs of life.

We can't solve all the worlds' hunger problems but we can help one family-one pet, one paw at a time.

Carmen

"If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you; that is the principal difference between a dog and a man." -Mark Twain

All this started from Caroling???

That's right.  For nearly 20 years I've hosted an annual Caroling party where guests were asked to bring a bag of cat or dog food and/or a clean (new or used) blanket to donate to the Humane Society.  Each year my sons and I would make the Christmas Eve pilgrimage to the Humane Society and unload as much as 900 pounds of food.  While I couldn't bear to go in and see the faces of the animals I couldn't take in, I told myself that perhaps, just perhaps, this food would help sustain the lives of those precious animals.

For years I've toyed with the idea of a food pantry and wasn't sure if there was a need or, if even it could be supported.   But I am more convinced than ever that now is the time to act and I hope you'll support us in this effort.

Please feel free to contact us to donate food or finances to help keep our shelves stocked.  Your donations are tax-deductable!

Check out our Services page for more information on what we currently have available.
